Davis-Curtis-500x500 - Edited (1)_edited_edited.png

Attorney Curtis Davis is a passionate fighter for justice, having entered the law field with a deep commitment to civil rights and particularly education law.  Curtis's legal work at BJLPC encompasses the representation of individuals, communities, and organizations in enforcing their basic legal and human rights in the areas of employment, education, housing, immigration, civil rights, and policy — all with the understanding of the larger struggles for justice and community health in California and nationwide.  His dedication to and energy for clients is unparalleled.

Curtis's unique experiences as a lawyer and prior K-12 educator have made him a resource for other advocates around the state.  He has years of experience representing low-income students and parents in education related legal issues against school districts. These cases involve expulsion defense on behalf of minors, related juvenile delinquency court defense, enforcement of special education rights, and related tort claims.  Because of the sensitive and sometimes unprecedented nature of this work, Curtis's cases often garner media attention, exposing the harms sometimes perpetrated by educational institutions and educators.  For all clients, Curtis uses his own experience as a teacher to strategically inform his representation as a lawyer and advance his clients’ education. Curtis believes a quality education is a fundamental right and opportunity to a healthy, productive, and stable life.

Curtis’ interest in children's rights, education, employment, immigration, and social justice lawyering developed from teaching, travel, and language study in Central and South America.  Curtis enjoys documentary films, long-distance running, basketball, tennis, roots-reggae music, live music, museums, nature hikes, kitchen creations, learning, and every moment with his two daughters, two cats, and partner - Rebecca.

Curtis attained his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California - San Diego.  He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and legal studies from the University of California - Berkeley.
